Steven Raga, the New York congressman representing Queens, proposed a bill with other state legislators to install 150 new cameras to fine drivers who illegally park in double lines in the city.
New York congressman Steven Raga is leading a group of legislators who intend to install 150 new cameras to fine drivers, including app-based delivery drivers, who park in double lines.
“With the overwhelming increase of cars on our streets, manual enforcement has been unable to keep up with the demand to combat double parking and illegal parking,” Raga wrote to the Speaker of the Assembly.
“These offenders rarely face consequences, allowing chaos and safety risks to persist for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists,” continued the congressman from Queens.
Fines for blocking bus lanes start at $50 and can go up to $250 for repeat offenders.

According to testimonies given to the New York Post, the city’s residents are divided on the project. “Before doing this, they need to find a middle ground,” said delivery driver Junior Ayella.
“It seems like they’re sitting there trying to come up with ways to shut down all the small businesses in the city and drive everyone who works here away. I don’t understand.”
“Our legislation ensures the enforcement of existing laws to protect drivers and pedestrians from blocked crosswalks, bike lanes, and fire hydrants,” Steven Raga said in a post on X.
Double parking and curb violations aren’t just a nuisance—they’re a public safety hazard.
